Skip and Mary Ann Nelson started their own business 27 years ago in August of 1983.  Prior to that time, Skip was a fleet mechanic with a fuel oil company in Milwaukee.  Mary Ann was a homemaker, concentrating her efforts on the needs of their five young children.  In 1983, the company that Skip worked for closed its doors forever.  Times were hard then, and jobs were scarce.  They reviewed their options, and moving wasn't one of them.  They had both lived in the lake country area all their lives.  Their children were happy at their school and were active in activities there and in the community.  They decided their best option was to open their own business.  This might seem a daunting undertaking to some, but Skip's prior emloyment not only trained him to be a highly skilled technician, but also gave him business management experience.

In August of 1983, Skip and Mary Ann purchased an abondoned gasoline station in North Lake on Hwy 83 and V V.  Skip ran his repair business in a two-bay garage and sold gasoline.  Later, Skip remodeled the building to include a small convenience store which Mary Ann managed.  The repair business continued to grow so Skip and Mary Ann decided to concentrate all their effors on that part of the business.

In 1994, they sold the convenience store and built the current building, forming Nelson's Auto Service, Inc. Skip's reputation for honesty and excellent service is a mainstay in the lake country area.  For a short period of time, Skip and Mary Ann let one of their children manage the daily operations, but they never relinquished ownership of their company.  In 2009, they hired a new business manager, Rick Becker, who currently oversees the day-to-day operations.  Skip and Rick work together to make sure their customers get high quality service and repair at a competitive price. 

Skip and Mary Ann have realized over the years that nothing is more important than excellent customer service.  The staff of Nelson's Auto Service, Inc. strives daily to give each customer the ultimate service and repair experience.  We call it, "going back to basics."  The customers can rest assured they will receive outstanding service and repair each and every time without a high-pressure sales pitch!  Nelson's is still the shop the offers ,"Hometown Service You Can Trust!"
